My story started when I found out my third child would be born with a complex and fatal heart defect. This is not easy news to hear at 19 weeks pregnant. Life as I knew it would never be the same. I had never heard of congenital heart defects past a hole in the heart. Hearing my baby would be born with half a heart was unfathomable. Owen came into our lives on June 25th, 2008. We began our fight before he was born and our fight has not ended nor will it ever end. Owen has endured multiple open heart surgeries, a stroke, an arrest, several cardiac catherizations and more procedures then I can list. We have almost lost him several times and I can sometimes hardly believe he has survived. He is truly a warrior. Sadly, Owen has lost many friends to this cruel defect and even his own future is uncertain. My mission is to do everything I can to help those people who care and treat Owen and other heart babies find treatments, fund much needed research, buy equipment and keep him alive. Becoming one of Wyatt’s Warriors has been one of the best and easiest decisions I have ever made.
I only hope that I can continue Wyatt’s battle with as much bravery as he did.
